COLLEGE INTERNSHIPS & WORK-STUDY JOBS

WonderLab offers valuable field experiences for college students. Internships for course credit must be approvIU Student Employees Awarded by the student's school or department. WonderLab has hosted interns from many different disciplines, including many non-science fields. Depending on the position, the internship may be available as an unpaid position, as a paid position (stipend or work-study funding), or for course credit. Check with the internship supervisor.

ANIMAL EXHIBITS Internship
Open Summer 2012

Supervisor:

• Provide animal care & feeding several times/week
• Assist with habitat maintenance
• Aid in research and development of animal demos and interpretive materials

Specific Qualifications

• Interest in biology and animals
• Reliable with a strong work ethic
• Weekend availability preferred

 


 
BIRTHDAY PARTY Internship
Open Winter 2012 (primarily weekends)

• Greet and work with children and parents
• Assist in set up and clean up
• Lead party science activity

CAMP DIRECTOR Assistant

• Help buy, pack, and set up materials and supplies
• Assist director with administrative tasks
• Help teachers with activities and directing interns
• Supervise children on playground at lunch hour
Specific Qualifications:

• Availability from May through July
• Must have reliable car transportation
• Experience/comfort with children and adults
• Outstanding organizational skills

 


 
Coordinator of HIGH SCHOOL INTERNS

• Handle inquiries and screen applicants
• Schedule interns for summer
• Coordinate with camp director on intern roles
• Supervise and mentor interns at camp
• Manage records of prospective and active interns
• Manage intern evaluations and recognition event
Specific Qualifications

• Work experience with teens and volunteers
• Availability from May through July
• Proficient in use of Word and Excel (PC)
• Must have reliable transportation




 
DEVELOPMENT Intern

Supervisor: Courtney Schmidt

• Pre-event preparation for annual gala fundraiser
• Enter confidential donor information in database
• Assist with filing and other administrative tasks
Specific Qualifications

• Strong interest in special event planning
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Proficient in Word and Excel (Mac)




 
EXHIBITS Interns

GALLERY Assistant

Main Supervisor: Mike Voyles

This internship offers broad experience working in a museum in the areas of Gallery Operations as a floor manager, Programs Department, Volunteer Department, and in the WonderLab garden.

Specific Qualifications

• Flexibility and ability to learn new skills
• Ability to interact with people of all ages
• Proficiency working on Mac computers
• Experience in gardening, interpretation, natural science, or education a plus




 
GRAPHIC DESIGN Intern
Open Summer 2012
Supervisor: Louise Schlesinger

• Carry out print and web design projects
• Maintain WonderLab brand
• Conduct photo shoots as needed

Specific Qualifications

• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
• Preference given to BFA students

 


 
MARKETING Intern

• Help with traditional and social media marketing
• Conduct research & analyze visitor patterns
• Maintain media contact lists and archives

MEMBERSHIP Intern

• Research, develop, implement and evaluate new and existing programs.
• Coordinate and present specific on-site museum programs

• Experience with youth and/or families
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
• Excellent organization and attention to detail
• Prefer science background and experience developing or coordinating programs

 


 
SUSTAINABILITY COORDINATOR Intern
Open Summer 2012

Supervisor: Mike Voyles

• Plan and lead interpretive activities in garden
• Maintain garden and supervise garden volunteers
• Supervise recycling and composting program
• Assess program effectiveness and develop community partnerships as needed
Specific Qualifications

• Must be available 200+ hours w/ weekend availability
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience with areas of reponsibility
• Comfortable with independent research

 


 
VISITOR SERVICES Interns

• Be a friendly greeter of museum visitors
• Sell admissions, memberships, gift store items
• Assist manager in other tasks as assigned

• Ability to learn computerized register
• Retail or customer service experience

 


 
VOLUNTEER SERVICES Interns
