Incredible Ice: Experiments with a Surprising Substance

Heat it, put it under pressure, pour salt on it...what happens? Discover the unexpected properties of ice through a variety of fascinating experiments! Activities include making mini-igloos, ice painting, lifting ice with a string, and melting ice with blocks composed of different substances. You'll even find out why you can glide in ice skates. Recommended for all ages. There will be more activities for preschool age children in the morning than in the afternoon. The crystals creation demonstration is best suited for children in elementary school and middle school.

Spring Wonder Workshop
Wednesday, March 12, 19, and 26

Special Activities: 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm (drop-in format)
Cost: $2 per kit, plus museum admission
Exercise your basic woodworking skills with a science construction project of your choice (Bug Box, Tie Rack, Tool Box, Garden Tool Carrier, and other kits). WonderLab will provide tools, materials, and decorations. Recommended for elementary school children with an adult helper.

Out of the Wild: A Live Bobcat Presentation
Saturday-Sunday, March 15-16

Saturday shows: 11:00 am and 1:00 pm
Sunday show: 2:00 pm
Cost: $3 per person, plus museum admission
Get close to a beautiful bobcat, an elusive species found in Indiana. Learn about what makes them so difficult to spot in the wild, as well as other aspects of their lives and the patterns of bobcat population. Please note that the audience will not be able to touch the bobcat. Shows are approximately one hour. The Saturday morning show is recommended for children, ages 3-7. The content of the Saturday afternoon show will be best suited for children, ages 8 and older, teens, and adults. The Sunday show will be geared toward the audience present.

Join Snakehead Ed and his fabulous snakes from around the world to see how snakes' skin patterns help them survive in different environments. See how knowing something about snakes' skin colors and patterns can help you identify which ones are poisonous, too! This show offers the chance to touch snakes. Shows are approximately one hour. Meet a barred owl and an eastern cottontail rabbit, as you discover the patterns of individual survival and population balance. What patterns help animals evade predators?
