First Friday Evening Science of Art: Hoop Dancing

Enjoy half-price admission as you explore the connections between art and science! Watch The Hudsucker Posse use centripetal force to defy gravity during spectacular hoop dancing performances at 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Related visitor activities include practicing the physics of hooping with the performers, creating spin art using paint, and making a wooden spinning top. A small-plate meal, freshly prepared by Bloomingfoods, will be available to buy in the WonderLab café.
West Fourth Street is the happenin' place to be this First Friday! Other activities taking place within a block of WonderLab that evening:
Ivy Tech John Waldron Arts Center (corner of S. Walnut and W. 4th St.). Opening reception for exhibitions in various media by artists Joyce Jensen, Robert Mirek, Katie Vernon, and Annie Young. Ms. Young is blind and creates textured acrylic paintings. There will be hands-on experiences for visitors of all ages that highlight how to create using the sense of touch in place of sight.
I Fell Building (415 W. 4th St.) and Thrive (412 W. 4th St.). This block of Fourth Street will be closed for a street party, including live music by the Kansas Bible Company, activities for children, art fair booths, and the Big Cheeze food truck. Inside the I FELL Building there will be an opening reception for exhibitions by furniture designers Siosi Design + Build and for Los Angeles based print artist Jeremy Kennedy. Thrive will offer hula hoop fitness activities by Joyful Hoops and an opening reception for an exhibition by artist Nathan Clarke.
