Teachers' Comments

"This was the most valuable professional development workshop that I have ever attended."

"I would give this institute my highest recommendation."

"I am really motivated now to teach science!"

"This institute should be required professional development for [my school district]."

"After teaching for 10 years this has motivated me to want to change things up in my classroom..."
How can you teach science in a way that will be fun for your students and effective in preparing them for state science standards? This institute provides in-depth science content information appropriate for grades 4-6 and help planning physical, earth, and life sciences units related to Indiana state science standards. Emphasis will be on developing hands-on science activities that support the curriculum and on coordinated implementation and assessment between grade levels. This year’s general topics are biology, geology, chemistry, and physics. Participating teachers receive:

• $500 stipend for week's attendance
• Professional development credit:15 CRUs for qualified teachers, or optional 3 hours
graduate credit from the IU School of Education with partial tuition reimbursement (paperwork required)
• Resource materials for your classroom
• Snacks
• 20% discount in the museum gift store during the institute

At the end of the fall semester, participants will be invited back to WonderLab for a brief follow-up session to discuss how effectively the institute helped them address the new curriculum and content, and to identify additional ways in which professional development needs can be met by the institute partners.
